From 1983 to 1986, Gary Gallagher was a standout for the Algonquin Caats men’s basketball team, known as one of the OCAA’s most accurate shooters and skilled ball handlers. He made an immediate impact as a freshman, finishing second in league scoring.
Gallagher followed up with a dominant sophomore season, leading the OCAA in scoring with an average of 21.1 points per game—securing his place in the league's record books. Over his three-year collegiate career, he amassed 1,149 points and maintained an impressive 80 percent free throw average. At the time of his induction, he ranked eighth in all-time OCAA scoring—the highest total ever for a player who competed in only three seasons.
Known for his smooth, fast-paced style and scoring ability from anywhere on the court, Gallagher was a fierce competitor who led by example. In addition to his scoring, he regularly led his team in rebounds, making him one of the most complete and impactful players in Algonquin College basketball history.
