Hal Wilson was the driving force behind the creation of the OCAA, using his vision and leadership to help establish a competitive athletic structure within the community college system.
As the OCAA’s first President from 1967 to 1969, Wilson worked alongside representatives from six other founding colleges to build the foundational framework—including the constitution, policies, and regulations—that still guide the organization today. Joining him on the inaugural executive committee were Gord Smith of Lambton (Vice President) and Joe Marko of Mohawk (Secretary-Treasurer).
Wilson spent 30 years at Algonquin College and held multiple roles within the OCAA beyond his presidency, including Past President and Secretary-Treasurer from 1969 to 1971. He also chaired the Constitution Committee in 1976-77 and served as Senior Convenor for tennis in 1974-75 and again in 1977-78.
In 1984, the OCAA honoured Wilson’s lasting impact with the presentation of a Shield Award.
