Ottawa, ON - The Algonquin Wolves volleyball teams will be taking on the George Brown Huskies this Saturday, November 22nd, in our annual Serve for the Cure game. This year, our women's volleyball team has held a fundraising campaign in support of Breast Cancer Canada, and the initiative will conclude at the end of Saturday's match. Donations can be made online through the campaign link, and every contribution makes a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer.
Supporters will have the chance to enter two exciting raffles:
Pie in the Face Raffle: Enter for a chance to pie your favorite player or coach after the game. Tickets: $3 each
Ottawa Senators Ticket Raffle: Win a pair of Sens tickets. Tickets: $5 each
Game Previews
The women's team is coming off a weekend road trip where they went 1-1, losing to the Durham Lords, but knocking off the previously undefeated St. Lawrence Surge. Sitting at 4-1, the Wolves will be looking to keep pace with the other top teams in the OCAA East Division. The Huskies come into this game sitting at 2-3, but are currently on a two game winning streak. The Wolves have a very balanced attack, as seven players averaging more than2 points per set.
The men's team has had a perfect start to the season, and are one of only two remaining undefeated teams. They enter the game coming off of back-to-back 3-0 sweeps of the Durham Lords and St. Lawrence Surge and are 5-0 and tied for first in the OCAA East Division. It's a battle of offense and defense as the Wolves as a team sit first in the OCAA with 285 digs, lead by third year Libero Naoki Nakashima who leads the OCAA with 5.18 digs per set and 88 total digs. The Wolves' defense will be tested as Huskies left-side Yaroslav Svidritskiy leads the OCAA in kills per set.
