In a rematch of the 2025 semi-final, the Wolves women's basketball team travelled to Toronto to take on the Humber Hawks, this time in the quarter-final round.
Prior to the game, two Wolves athletes received their OCAA league awards. 1st year forward Chloe Coggin was named to the OCAA East All-Rookie team and 5th year guard Taryn Mitchell was named an East 1st Team All-Star.
The Wolves and Hawks went back and forth for the first half of the opening quarter, but Humber ended it on a 14-2 run to take a 11 point lead going into the 2nd quarter. Algonquin found their bearings exchanging baskets back and forth early in the 2nd period. Unfortunately for the Wolves Taryn Mitchell, who had 6 of the Wolves 11 1st quarter points, went down with an injury half way through the 2nd quarter and was unable to return. This was a tough blow to the team who relied heavily on Mitchell on both ends of the floor all season long. Humber extended their lead to 44-23 at the half.
Despite a large deficit going into the 2nd half, the Wolves did not go down easy, putting up a fight and tying the 2nd half, but unfortunately the first half deficit was too much to overcome as they fell 77-56 at the hands of the Hawks. Cooper Drover stepped up big time after Mitchell went down to lead the Wolves in scoring with 17 points in 19 minutes off the bench. Leah Hirst and Cianah Miller had 12 points each in their final games in an Algonquin uniform. Miller also added 7 steals and 6 assists. Despite the injury, Taryn Mitchell had 8 points in 15 minutes of action.
The loss means the Women's basketball season has come to an end. To the graduating seniors, thank you for your contributions to the program. We look forward to seeing you back in the stands as alumni next season. To those returning, we can't wait to see you back on the court at the ARC in the fall!
