The Algonquin Wolves women's rugby 7s team faced a challenging weekend in Toronto as they competed in their third Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) tournament of the season. Despite a strong effort and flashes of excellent play, the Wolves finished the weekend with a 1–3 record.
The Wolves opened the tournament with a tightly contested match against the Seneca Sting. Seneca struck early, taking a 5–0 lead within the opening minute, but Algonquin quickly responded as Jayden Easy powered through for a try just two minutes later. A defensive lapse late in the half allowed Seneca to regain the advantage, entering halftime up 10–5. The second half was a defensive stalemate until Seneca extended their lead to 15–5 midway through the half. Grace Valdron added a late try to bring the Wolves within five, but the comeback fell just short as Algonquin dropped the opener 15–10.
The Wolves rebounded strongly in their second match, delivering a dominant 26–0 victory over the Fleming Phoenix. Rowan McKenna led the scoring with two tries, while Princess Ikeson and Faiza Faucher-Ahmed each added one. Tegan Egli was perfect on conversions, adding six points to complete the shutout win. Day two featured tough matchups against two of the OCAA's top programs — the Conestoga Condors and Humber Hawks. Despite resilient defensive efforts, the Wolves were unable to find their rhythm on attack, falling 27–0 to the Condors and 36–0 to the Hawks.
The Wolves now hold a 3–8 record on the season and will look to finish strong as they host their final tournament of the year at Twin Elm Rugby Park in Ottawa. Algonquin will face the St. Lawrence Surge, Loyalist Lancers, and Durham Lords as they aim to close out the campaign on a high note in front of their home supporters, as they also celebrate their graduating seniors.
