WOMEN’S RUGBY 7s HOST FINAL TOURNAMENT OF REGULAR SEASON

WOMEN’S RUGBY 7s HOST FINAL TOURNAMENT OF REGULAR SEASON

This Saturday, September 18th, the Algonquin Wolves women's rugby 7s team will close out their regular season at Twin Elm Rugby Park in Ottawa. The tournament marks the final tune-up before the OCAA Championships, hosted by Conestoga College in Kitchener on Saturday, October 25th.

It's been a season of highs and lows for the Wolves, who have battled through several tightly contested matchups. The team enters the weekend with a 3-8 record, currently sitting 6th in the OCAA standings. Their opponents on Saturday will be the St. Lawrence Surge (1-10), Loyalist Lancers (6-5), and Durham Lords (11-0).

The Wolves previously faced this same trio at the opening tournament on September 13th, earning a 20-5 victory over St. Lawrence, while falling 55-0 to Durham and 17-5 to Loyalist. With one final regular season opportunity ahead, the Wolves will look to build momentum heading into the championship stage.

This weekend also carries special significance as it marks the final regular season tournament for graduating senior Morgan Payne. Over three seasons with the Wolves, Morgan has been a cornerstone of the program's success. In her rookie year (2023), she was recognized as an OCAA League All-Star and named the team's Most Valuable Player at the Algonquin Wolves Awards Night. To date, Morgan has appeared in 39 regular season matches, recording four tries for the Wolves. The Algonquin Students' Association congratulates Morgan on an outstanding collegiate career and thanks her for her dedication and leadership both on and off the field.
