Women's Volleyball Team Awards

Faith Billaney ROY

The Wolves women's volleyball team had a young squad this past season.  Out of the 14 players on their roster, 10 of them have just finished their rookie year.  The team finished the regular season with a 6-2 record, good for 3rd in the OCAA East division.  After a first round playoff win against La Cité Collégial the Wolves earned themselves a spot in the OCAA Final 8, an impressive result for such a young group.

With that many rookies contributing to the success of the team, coach Everton Senior and his coaching staff had a difficult decision when it came to choosing the women's volleyball Rookie of the Year.  They would ultimately decide on the left side from Boissevain Manitoba, Faith Billaney

Faith had an outstanding first year for the Wolves tallying 61 Kills, 78 Digs and 13 Assists through 7 regular season games.  One of her best performances of the year came on February 25th against cross town rival La Cité Collégial.  #7 would finish the night with 16 Kills, 12 Digs, and 3 Aces in the 5 set win.

Congratulations to Faith Billaney, the Algonquin Wolves Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year!

Emilie Menard MVP

The 2022 season was a year of new beginnings.  The first year for the Algonquin Wolves, the first season competing at the brand new Jack Doyle Athletic and Recreation Centre (ARC), the first season back after a year off due to the pandemic, and the first college season for 10 out of 14 athletes on the women's volleyball team.  With such a young group, leadership was essential to the success of the team, and leadership is exactly what they got from 3rd year Libero Emilie Menard.

Emilie had an outstanding season leading the Wolves defence.  She led the team collecting 86 Digs over 7 matches.  She finished 8th in the OCAA at 2.97 Digs per Set.  One of her top performances came on February 18th on the road at Seneca.  #3 would finish the game with 21 Digs in a 5 set victory.

Her efforts helped lead the Wolves to a 3rd place finish in the OCAA East and a berth in the OCAA Final 8.

Menard's outstanding season was also recognized by the OCAA as she was named an OCAA East division 1st Team All-Star.  This is the 2nd straight season she has been named to an All-Star team, she was named an OCAA East 2nd Team All-Star for the 2019-2020 season.

Congratulations to Emilie Menard, the Algonquin Wolves Women's Volleyball Most Valuable Player!
