PLAYOFF PREVIEW - WOLVES HOST CAMBRIAN SHIELD IN OCAA CROSSOVER MATCH

PLAYOFF PREVIEW - WOLVES HOST CAMBRIAN SHIELD IN OCAA CROSSOVER MATCH

After finishing the regular season 12-6 and 4th in the OCAA East Division, Algonquin will now host the 5th seed in the OCAA West Division, the Cambrian Shield (9-9) in the OCAA Crossover match.

When looking at the two teams, it is evident that they play very different styles. The Shield rely heavily on 4th left side Carlie Pappano to generate their offense. Pappano finished the regular season 6th in the OCAA in points with 241, and 3rd in kills with 220.  Cambrian only has 2 other players with at least 100 points. The Wolves on the other hand have a more balanced scoring distribution, as 5 Wolves have eclipsed the 100 point mark, led by 1st year left side Carys Tenthorey with 212.

The Wolves greatest strength is arguably their service game, as they finished 2nd in the OCAA as a team with 214 total aces compared to 121 for the Shield. Carys Tenthorey, Grace Pate and Natasha Lauzon have 56, 46, and 31 aces respectively, so the service pressure is constant for opposing teams. Algonquin also holds the edge in blocking, as they finished 4th in the OCAA in total blocks with 138 compared to 79 by the Shield. The key for the game for the Wolves is to use their service pressure to force the Shield out of system, and make it easier for their blockers to slow down the Shield's offense.
