Ottawa, ON - The Algonquin Wolves women's volleyball team hosted their second annual Serve for the Cure game in support of Breast Cancer Canada, and the night delivered both on and off the court. Surrounded by a sea of pink in the stands, the Wolves put on a dominant performance against the George Brown Huskies, securing a 3–0 sweep and raising more than $2,000 for breast cancer research.
Algonquin found early momentum in the opening set after trailing 10–7. A kill from Carys Tenthorey, an ace from Gabbie Paquette, and a pair of Huskies errors swung the score in Algonquin's favour. With the Wolves up one, Tenthorey delivered two more aces before Chanel Ethier smashed a cross-court kill to extend the lead to 15–11. A strong serving game from the Wolves kept the Huskies out of system for much of the set, which was capped off by an ace from Pasha Ormerod to give Algonquin the 25–17 win.
The second set featured more back-and-forth play with Algonquin holding a narrow 11–9 advantage midway through. Tenthorey once again sparked the run, adding to her game-high 16 kills before going on a dominant seven-point service run that included five aces, pushing the Wolves ahead 19–9. George Brown responded with a small run of their own, closing the gap to 21–15, but a timely block from Mysha Janif halted the surge. The Wolves maintained control from there, sealing the set 25–21 with a kill from Natasha Lauzon.
In the third, Algonquin again found themselves trailing 15–12, before Ethier scored back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to one. Lauzon's ace tied the score, and Ormerod followed with a decisive kill to give the Wolves their first lead of the set. Algonquin's aggressive serving continued to make the difference, as Lauzon added another ace and the Wolves extended their lead to 19–16, forcing a Huskies timeout. It did little to slow the momentum, and Ormerod's final ace of the match sealed the 25–19 victory and the Wolves' sweep.
Several Wolves delivered standout performances on the night. Carys Tenthorey earned Athlete of the Week honours, finishing with 24 points on 16 kills and 8 aces. Chanel Ethier added 13 kills, 1 ace, and 1 block, while Pasha Ormerod recorded 8 kills, 2 aces, and 1 block. Natasha Lauzon contributed 8 kills and 4 aces.
With the win, Algonquin improves to 5–1, moving into a tie for second place in the OCAA East Division. The Wolves now turn their attention to a crucial road swing, traveling to face the undefeated Seneca Sting on Friday, November 28, followed by a matchup against the Georgian Grizzlies on Saturday, November 29.
