WOLVES SPLIT WEEKEND ROAD TRIP, TAKE DOWN UNDEFEATED SURGE IN FIVE-SET THRILLER

WOLVES SPLIT WEEKEND ROAD TRIP, TAKE DOWN UNDEFEATED SURGE IN FIVE-SET THRILLER

Friday, November 14th vs. Durham Lords

The Algonquin Wolves women's volleyball team entered their first road trip of the season with a 3–0 record, but their momentum was halted by a strong showing from the Durham Lords, who handed the Wolves their first loss of the campaign in straight sets.

Durham, who swept the season series against Algonquin last year, looked confident from the opening serve. The Lords capitalized on early Wolves errors to jump out to a 7–3 lead, and continued to apply pressure with a disciplined block and an efficient offense. Algonquin struggled to find rhythm in transition, and despite a late push highlighted by three consecutive aces from Carys Tenthorey, Durham closed out the first set 25–17.

The Wolves regrouped in the second and traded points early, eventually leading 15–14. However, Durham responded with a string of key kills and regained control of the set, pulling away 25–18. Algonquin showed flashes in the third but continued to face challenges converting offensively,

allowing the Lords to finish the match with a 25–21 win.

Despite the loss, several Wolves turned in competitive performances. Channel Ethier recorded 7 kills and 3 aces, while Tenthorey also tallied 7 kills, 7 aces, and a block. Grace Pate added 6 kills and 3 aces.

Saturday, November 15th vs. St. Lawrence Surge

There was little time for the Wolves to regroup, as they took on the undefeated St. Lawrence Surge the next day. The Wolves showed great poise and veteran leadership, as they took down the Surge in a thrilling five set comeback to salvage the weekend split and improve to 4-1.

The Wolves started slowly but gained momentum midway through the opening set. Trailing 13–12, Cambria Alford sparked a run with a left-side kill and followed it with back-to-back aces to flip the score. With strong swings from Carys Tenthorey and Pasha Ormerod, the Wolves took control and closed out the set 25–17.

St. Lawrence responded convincingly, capitalizing on Algonquin errors to take the next two sets by identical 25–16 scores, putting the Wolves on the verge of back-to-back losses. But Algonquin's veteran leadership took over in the fourth. A fast 4–0 start, highlighted by a powerful Chanel Ethier kill, set the tone, and Alford once again came up clutch, helping the Wolves extend the lead to 13–6. Algonquin maintained full control the rest of the way to force a deciding fifth set with a commanding 25–13 win.

The final set lived up to the moment. Trailing 8–7 at the switch, the Wolves leaned on Ormerod, who delivered two key kills to tie the score. A ball handling error and a timely ace from Ormerod gave Algonquin an 11–9 lead, but the Surge responded to reclaim a 12–11 advantage. Grace Pate leveled the score with one of her 11 kills, before Alford hammered another to put the Wolves ahead. An ace from Pate set up match point, and blocker Isabella Paquette sealed the comeback with a decisive block.

Alford led the Wolves with a standout performance, recording 14 kills, 3 aces, 1 block, and 15 digs. Ormerod added 7 kills, 2 aces, and 4 blocks, while Pate contributed 11 kills and 2 aces.
