Friday November 7th @ St. Lawrence
The Wolves men's basketball team took its 1st road trip outside of Ottawa this 2025-26 regular season. On Friday they were in Kingston to take on the St. Lawrence Surge, followed by a matchup with the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday in Belleville.
Both the Surge and Wolves entered Friday's contest looking to get back to .500 after starting the season 1-2.
Algonquin was happy to see the return of 3rd year guard Albert Opena who played his 1st game of the season against his former St. Lawrence squad. Opena was able to open the scoring, getting to the hoop and finishing with his right hand. Both teams traded punches with St. Lawrence holding a slim 17-16 lead after the opening frame.
The Wolves were able to gain an early 2nd quarter lead but the Surge carried momentum down the stretch to take a 37-30 lead into the break. Albert Opena led the way offensively for the Wolves with 14 1st half points.
Unfortunately for the Wolves, that is as close as they would get with St. Lawrence controlling the pace the rest of the way on route to a 77-60 win.
Albert Opena led all scorers with a game high 24 points. Haven Holder and Aydin Gilani each had 8 points and combined for 15 boards.
Saturday November 8th @ Loyalist
The team was back in action on Saturday in Belleville to take on the Loyalist Lancers. Loyalist entered the game with a 1-2 record after earning their 1st win the night prior, exploding to a 129-86 win over the La Cité Coyotes.
Saturday was a similar script as the night before for Algonquin with the Wolves opening up an early lead but the Lancers storming back to earn a 4 point lead after the 1st quarter.
Loyalist would control the pace from there as the Wolves were unable to cool off their offence. The Lancers shot an impressive 47.6% for the game to earn their 2nd win in as many days, this time with a 101-72 final score.
Haven Holder finished the game with an 11 point and 10 rebound double double. James Texeira was also in double figures with 11. Shyeem Brown contributed 7 points in 12 minutes off the bench.
The Wolves will look to bounce back at home this upcoming weekend when the Georgian Grizzlies come to town on Saturday November 15th at 3:00 pm for the 2nd annual Pots and Pans night. It is also the 2nd Feed the Pack game of the 2025-26 varsity season. All proceeds from the game will go to support the SA Food Cupboard. The ARC will also be accepting non-perishable food donations.
