MEN’S VOLLEYBALL EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE WITH SWEEP OVER SURGE

Ottawa, Ont. - The Algonquin Wolves men's volleyball team extended their winning streak to five on Wednesday night with a straight-sets victory over the St. Lawrence Surge at the ARC.

The Surge, still searching for their first win since joining the OCAA in 2025, came out competitive in their first visit to the ARC and kept pace early, tying the score at 11–11. Mateo Nunez Kruus then stepped to the service line and delivered a series of tough serves, forcing the Surge out of system and into four consecutive hitting errors. The Wolves used that momentum to pull away and cruised to a 25–14 opening set win.

Algonquin's blocking presence continued to be a major factor in the second set, making it difficult for the Surge to find any offensive rhythm and helping the Wolves jump out to a 15–10 lead. St. Lawrence capitalized on a few unforced errors to cut the deficit to 20–18, but a timely block by Ethan Fisher shut down any comeback attempt as Algonquin secured the set 25–19.

The third set followed a familiar pattern, with strong net play forcing additional hitting errors from the Surge and slowing down any clean attacks that made it over the net. The Wolves built a 10–5 lead and sided out efficiently the rest of the way, closing out the match with a 25–21 win.

Several Wolves turned in standout performances:

Nick Gauthier-Barber: Team-high 17 points on 14 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 ace

Ethan Fisher: Extremely efficient night with 10 kills on 11 attempts, plus 5 blocks and 1 ace

Jonah Dekker-Bauer: Career-high 32 assists and 1 ace

The win marks Algonquin's fifth straight victory, with the Wolves remaining undefeated in 2026. Algonquin improves to 10–3 and is tied for the third-best record in the OCAA East. With three matches remaining, the Wolves will look to finish the regular season strong as they push up the standings. They head on the road for the final time this season on Saturday with a matchup in Belleville against the Loyalist Lancers.
